Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Mobile BayBears came to town just two games out of first and picked up some ground as they beat the Barons 4-3 in front of 2,238 fans on Tuesday evening at the Hoover Met. The loss drops the Barons....

Carlos Castillo (0-1) joined the Barons earlier in the day from Winston-Salem and started in place of Mitch Wylie who went on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder. Castillo picked up the loss after throwing 5.1 innings and giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out six.

Mobile scored two early runs in the second after former Baron Danny Bravo doubled in a pair and tacked on a third run in the fourth on an RBI single by Joe Gerber. Birmingham cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth after Gabe Alvarez crushed his eleventh homer, a solo shot, and Jon Hamilton doubled in Scott Bikowski who had walked earlier in inning. The BayBears pushed the lead to 4-2 in the sixth on an RBI single by Humberto Quintero but the Barons bounced back with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a sac fly by Carlos Maldonado but came up short in the end.

Duncan McAdoo (4-7) gave up all three runs for Mobile but picked up the win after going six strong innings. Three Mobile relievers turned in scoreless innings with J.J. Trujillo picking up his second save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth.

The Barons look to even the series by sending out RHP Enemencio Pacheco (10-2, 2.66) to face RHP Chris Rojas (5-8, 3.97). All the action can be heard on 101.1 FM "The Source" with Curt Bloom on the play-by-play.
