BayBears Capitalize off Smokies Errors to Earn Another Win

KODAK, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, tallied seven unearned runs and defeated the Tennessee Smokies 9-4 Saturday night at Smokies Stadium.

Tennessee (41-51 overall, 8-15 second half) committed errors to start the second and fifth, leading to four-run and three-run frames, respectively. Jo Adell drove in a pair of runs with a double to cap the second, and Jhoan Urena added a two-run homer off Alex Lange (2-2) in the fifth.

Tyler Carpenter (1-0) earned the win with his first quality start of the season. Carpenter allowed just one run on four hits, three in the infield, over six innings.

Four BayBears (38-52, 11-1) players recorded multiple hits. In addition to Adell and Urena, Jack Kruger and Zane Gurwitz also had two-hit games. Erick Salcedo contributed as well with RBIs in the second and ninth.

The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Tennessee Sunday at 4:30 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (4-6, 5.31 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Thomas Hatch (4-10, 4.91 ERA) for the Smokies.
