Mobile BayBears News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, used three home runs and lights out relief pitching to come back for a 5-3 win over the Tennessee Smokies Friday night at Smokies Stadium.

Jo Adell led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. He had a solo shot in the first, a game-tying dinger in the eighth, and a fifth-inning RBI single. It was the third multi-homer game of Adell's career, and he became the first BayBears (37-52 overall, 10-11 second half) player to hit two home runs in a game this year.

After Adell tied the game in the eighth, Bo Way launched a two-run homer in the ninth off Jake Stinnett (1-1) to put Mobile in front 5-3. It was Way's fourth long ball of the year to match his career-high set in 2014, his first professional season.

The BayBears bullpen kept the Smokies (41-50, 8-14) off the board for the final seven frames. Isaac Mattson increased his scoreless streak to 20 1/3 straight innings and hitless streak to 13 1/3 consecutive innings. Joe Gatto (4-3) got Mobile out of a jam with two runners on in the eighth by fanning the last two batters. Adam Hofacket became the third BayBears pitcher to earn his sixth save.

The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Tennessee Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Carpenter (0-0, 2.93 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Alex Lange (2-1, 3.52 ERA) for the Smokies. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (Tennessee feed, subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on MobileBayBears.com, the TuneIn app, and the MiLB First Pitch app, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 5:45 p.m. CDT.
