BIRMINGHAM, AL- The BayBears won their second straight game Friday, beating Birmingham 4-1. Jose Oyervidez (3-9) was the winning pitcher after seven innings and only allowing one run. Oyervidez struck out six Barons, and surrendered three hits. The BayBears only had four hits, and go to 16-13 in the second half with the win.
The BayBears fell behind 1-0 in the second inning on a solo home run by Micah Schnurstein. After back-to-back home runs by Vincent Sinisi and Stephen Smitherman in the third inning, the BayBears led 3-1. The BayBears scored their fourth run in the fifth inning, when Julius Matos grounded into a double play with a runner at third base. Leo Rosales pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Dale Thayer a perfect ninth for his 18th save.
The BayBears will send Dirk Hayhurst (2-1) to the mound Saturday, while the Barons counter with Corwin Malone (8-6). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
