Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA (January 15, 2008)-Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings' head coach Jon Norris has been busy putting together the roster for the 2008 season and has recently added several key players including quarterback Steve Panella, last season's Gridiron Enterprises International Player of the Year.
"Steve's an established quarterback and a fine athlete. There will be some good competition in training camp with him and Gary Cooper," Norris said.
The BattleWings have also recently been assigned two Offensive Lineman, Chris Hollie and David Gladney. Hollie, who played last season in Oklahoma City is 6'5, 350 lbs while Gladney (6'1. 298 lbs) is a former Airline High School standout who played collegiately at Lindenwood.
"Hollie might be the biggest man I've ever signed. He's very athletic for his size," Norris added. "Gladney plays with a high motor and can be a powerful player for us in the middle."
Norris is also excited about the addition of former Baylor running back Paul Mosley who led the Bears in rushing three of his four years in Waco. Joel Gamble (6'2, 260) played tight end at Shippensburg (PA) and is projected to contribute to the BattleWings' 2008 attack at full back and line backer.
Finally, the receiving corps has been strengthened by the assignment of WR Jeremy Madkins from Tarleton State University and Derek Watson (6'3, 215). Watson and Panella should be familiar with each other, as they played together last season at Amarillo and in college at St. Mary's in Canada.
"I'm excited about what Jeremy can do; he was a dominating DII college player and we think he'll be the same here and Derek is another big player with great skills."
The BattleWings will hold their final open tryout for the 2008 season on Sunday, March 2nd at Independence Stadium in Shreveport. A non-refundable registration fee of $60 (cash only) is due the day of the tryout. Interested athletes can visit the BattleWings' website at www.battlewings.com for details and information.
The BattleWings open the 2008 season at the CenturyTel Center on March 29th against the Central Valley (CA) Coyotes. Season Tickets are on sale now and start as low as $85. For information and to place your order, call the BattleWings' office at (318) 746-8755.
