BOARDMAN, Ohio- The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that Derrion Fuqua has been assigned to the team by the arenafootball2 League Office. Fuqua (5'11, 185), a Defensive Back is a first year af2 player.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Fuqua joins the Thunder after a stellar college career that commenced at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI). In two years with the Warriors Fuqua amassed 123 tackles including three for loss, with four interceptions, 16 pass-break-ups and three fumble recoveries. After his junior season in 2005 Fuqua was named WSU's Defensive Most Valuable Player. For his efforts during the 2006 season Fuqua was selected to the Hansen's Football Gazette Honorable Mention All-America Team.
Fuqua began his collegiate career at Grand Rapids Community College (Grand Rapids, MI). In two seasons with Grand Rapids he recorded 19 total tackles with four pass break-ups and two interceptions. Derrion is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants running back John "Frenchy" Fuqua.
