Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The fifth annual "Battle the Black Hawks" bowling event at Maple Lanes in Waterloo is scheduled for Sunday, November 24th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to benefit Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity, the Waterloo Black Hawks announced on Friday.
Since 2015, Hawks players and fans have gathered at Maple Lanes on University Avenue during a November Sunday to brandish their bowling skills. It's an opportunity to compete against Waterloo's world-class athletes in a game where (almost) everyone is starting off on more level terms. Small groups of fans duel with Waterloo players in Maple Lanes' specialty Mad Game, Battle of the Lanes. The fast-moving game comes with a chance to claim prizes for fans who out-bowl Waterloo's best hockey players. Registration (including shoe rental) is $15 for adults or $10 for kids age 18 and under and begins immediately.
"During the course of a hockey season, there are a lot of chances to meet the team, but this one is unique," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "I can't think of another time during the year when fans have the chance to engage in a little friendly competition against the players. I'd like to thank Maple Lanes for making it possible and for simultaneously helping us raise money for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity."
Battle of the Lanes is one of several bowling-based interactive games available at Maple Lanes. Two side-by-side lanes are represented on scoring monitors as medieval castles; the object is to destroy the opposing team's castle with a rock catapulted from one screen to the other. The size of the rock to be fired is determined by the number of bowling pins knocked down in the frame.
Fans can register at the Waterloo Black Hawks' offices in Young Arena, at the Fan Service Table on game nights, or at Maple Lanes on the morning of November 24th, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Maple Lanes is located at 2608 University Avenue in Waterloo.
