Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery welcomes the Vancouver Whitecaps to Blackbaud Stadium Sunday for a 6 PM match. The game is the first of a two-match series between the sides in 2006; the Battery plays the return game in Vancouver Thursday, August 31. Charleston enters the game after a busy stretch last weekend that saw the Battery defeat Seattle then lose and tie in a back-to-back series with Puerto Rico.
In 2005 the Battery was defeated by the Whitecaps 4-0 in Vancouver but won 2-0 in the second game played at Blackbaud Stadium.
The Whitecaps are led by two-time USL First Division Coach of the Year Bob Lilley. Lilley led Vancouver to a playoff appearance in 2005 but Vancouver fell in the first stage on penalties to eventual finalist Richmond. Lilley previously coached the Montreal Impact and the Hershey Wildcats.
