Charleston Battery News Release
CHARLESTON S.C. - The Charleston Battery unveiled Thursday new limited-edition jerseys that will be worn by players on October 20 for Breast Cancer Awareness Night as the team takes on LA Galaxy II in a "Pink Out" at Patriots Point. The new jerseys, featuring the American Cancer Society's Real Men Wear Pink campaign logo, will be signed by players and auctioned off to support breast cancer initiatives including research, patient services, and education around screenings and risk reduction.
"This year alone, nearly 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer," said Battery executive chairman Rob Salvatore. "It affects families everywhere and we're in a unique position to leverage the entire Battery organization to raise awareness and support behind such an important cause."
The club is currently raising money through online donations to Real Men Wear Pink of Charleston with Salvatore serving as one of the Charleston area's ambassadors for the American Cancer Society campaign. Proceeds from the limited-edition, player-signed jersey auction will be donated to the Real Men Wear Pink campaign.
Leading up to the "Pink Out" at Patriots Point on October 20, the Battery also launched "Charleston Wears Pink" t-shirts with $10 from every t-shirt sold being donated to the American Cancer Society and the Real Men Wear Pink initiative.
Bidding is now open for the player jersey auction supporting Real Men Wear Pink and the limited-edition t-shirts supporting the campaign are also now available. Fans can visit www.charlestonbattery.com/pink for more information and can buy tickets now for the October 20 "Pink Out" at Patriots Point vs. LA Galaxy II by visiting SeatGeek.com, the Battery's digital ticketing provider.
