Charleston, SC - The Charleston Battery tied the Atlanta Silverbacks tonight 2-2 at Blackbaud Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,691. Charleston fought back after trailing Atlanta by one goal to none at the half but could not hang on to a second half lead to secure all three points. With the tie Charleston improves to 2-2-2, 8 points, 4th place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta improves to 1-2-1, 4 points in the Conference.

Atlanta scored the first goal of the game late in the first half. Charleston failed to clear properly from a Silverbacks attack. Forward, Mac Cozier was first to the loose ball and he slotted home a left-footed shot from 6-yards out.

The Battery equalized in the 51st minute. Midfielder Kevin Jackson crossed to the back-post from the right side. Midfielder Ted Chronopoulos met the cross and directed a header into the top-right hand corner of the goal.

Charleston broke through again, this time with a spectacular goal in the 69th minute. Again Jackson sent in a cross from wide on the right. Forward Greg Simmonds swiveled as the ball came towards him and then hit a powerful right-footed volley past Atlanta goalkeeper Anthony Tokpah into the goal.

The Battery looked to be heading to victory but were denied by a second Cozier strike in the 77th minute. Gary Brooks slipped the ball across to Cozier after his first shot was blocked. Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock was stranded to the left of the goal giving Cozier the simplest of finishes.

Neither team could find a winner through 20 minutes of golden-goal OT and the match ended tied, Charleston Battery 2 - Atlanta Silverbacks 2.
