Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery squares off against the Carolina RailHawks Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM ($5 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery (8-3-8, 32 points) enters the game in third position in the USL First Division two points ahead of the RailHawks (9-4-3, 30 points) who are in fourth place.
Charleston played two road games last weekend recording a 0-0 tie in Cleveland on Friday night and a 1-1 tie in Rochester on Saturday night. Dusty Hudock recorded his league-leading 11th shut-out of the year in the game versus the Cleveland City Stars.
In Rochester on Saturday Battery striker Randi Patterson scored in the 37th minute to tie the game; Patterson leads Charleston in scoring this season with seven goals in all competitions.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser will not have veteran goalkeeper Dusty Hudock available for selection on Friday night. Hudock was shown a red-card late in the match versus Rochester. He was not on the field at the time and was ejected for disputing a call from the bench area; as a result he will serve an automatic one-game suspension.
This is the third and final meeting of the regular season between the Battery and the RailHawks. Charleston won the first match 2-1 back on May 9 in a game played in Cary, NC. The RailHawks evened the series with a 1-0 victory in a game played on July 11 at Blackbaud Stadium.
The RailHawks last match was a 2-1 win versus the Vancouver Whitecaps in the RFOX Soccer Channel game of the week played last Friday night at WakeMed Stadium in Cary, NC. Forwards Gregory Richardson and Salieu Bundu scored the goals for Carolina.
Carolina's roster underwent a complete overhaul during the off-season with new head coach Martin Rennie bringing in an almost entirely new squad; only four players remain from the 2008 season. Former Charleston Battery forwards Gavin Glinton and Aaron King were among the players signed.
