
Battery signs Chris Gores

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with defender Chris Gores for the 2006 USL First Division season. Gores, 28, arrives in Charleston after spending the last two seasons with the Puerto Rico Islanders.
Charleston Battery head coach, Mike Anhaeuser,
"Chris has been a solid performer for the Puerto Rico Islanders the past two seasons and should add experience, depth and size to our new-look back line. Chris is a physical presence and we look forward to him making his mark as a Charleston Battery player."
Gores, 6-2, 190, began his pro-career in 2001 with the Minnesota Thunder. He played two seasons with the Thunder, appearing in 45 games and scoring one goal.
In 2004, Gores joined the Puerto Rico Islanders; in two years with the Islanders Gores played 53 games scoring 1 goal and adding two assists. Gores was the Puerto Rico captain in 2005.
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Gores played three years at Stanford University prior to turning pro.

2006 Carolina Challenge Cup
The Charleston Battery will host the third annual Carolina Challenge Cup March 18 - 25 at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island. The 2006 pre-season tournament will feature 2004 MLS Cup Champions DC United, Major League Soccer's MetroStars, Houston 1836 and the USL First Division Charleston Battery.
DC United's 16-year old soccer sensation Freddy Adu is expected to make a return visit to the tournament. Tickets are on sale now priced at $15 - $25; discounts are available for series tickets (includes all 6 games) and for 2006 Charleston Battery season ticket holders.
