Charleston Battery News Release

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery travels to Miami Sunday for a 4 PM fixture versus Miami FC. The game is the fourth between the sides this year; Charleston has won twice with one game ending in a tie. Most recently the Battery dispatched Miami 2-0 on July 22 at Blackbaud Stadium; Gavin Glinton scored a goal in each half to lead Charleston to the victory.

Charleston (10-7-5, 35 points) enters the game in 2nd position in the USL First Division (ahead of the weekend's other games) with six matches remaining. Miami (6-9-5, 23 points), is back in 10th position but has two games in hand over Charleston. The top six teams advance to the post-season; Charleston has not made the playoffs since the 2003 season.

The Battery's most recent match was a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night with the Puerto Rico Islanders in a game played at Blackbaud Stadium. Jamaican winger Omar Daley gave Charleston an early lead but the Islanders drew level on an Allen Marcina goal late in the half.

The Battery's team-leading striker Gavin Glinton fired Charleston ahead again in stoppage time at the end of the first period but Puerto Rico responded in the second half through substitute forward Jon Lopuski. Glinton has now scored 12 goals in all competitions this year, 11 in league games.

This will be the first game in Miami for Charleston striker Luc Harrington since he was acquired by the Battery in a mid-season trade; Charleston dealt Miami midfielder Jeff Matteo in return for Harrington.

The Sunday night game in Miami is the first of five straight road matches for the Battery; Charleston plays Montreal on August 16 then heads West for three; Vancouver (8/31), Seattle (9/1) & Portland (9/2). The Battery's final regular season game is at Blackbaud Stadium on Sunday, September 10 against the powerhouse Rochester Rhinos; kick off is set for 6 PM.

The Charleston Battery vs Miami FC game will be broadcast live in the Charleston area on CNN 1450AM and simulcast on the web at www.charlestonbattery.com; the pre-game broadcast will begin at 3:45 PM.
