
Olympian Manny Lagos to play with Thunder in Thursday exhibition game

St. Paul, Minn. (Friday, August 11, 2006)- Minnesota Thunder Hall of Fame player Manny Lagos will join the Thunder in a late season exhibition game, the Thunder announced today.
Lagos will play with the Thunder when they face the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Thursday, August 17 at Prior Lake High School at 7 p.m. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased online at www.mnthunder.com or by calling 651.917.TEAM.
Lagos played with the Thunder from 1990-1996 and was inducted to the Thunder Hall of Fame in 2002. He is fourth on the Thunder's All-Time list with 29 career goals. Lagos was named a USL All-Star for three straight seasons from 1994-1996 and was the league MVP in 1994.
Lagos also had a successful MLS career from 1996 to 2005, where he won the MLS Cup with the San Jose Earthquakes three times. He was named an MLS All-Star in 2001 with the Earthquakes, and also played for the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, Chicago Fire, Tampa Bay Mutiny and Columbus Crew. Lagos spent time with the U.S. National Team as well, scoring a game-winning goal for the USA in the 1992 Olympics in Spain.
Lagos currently serves as the Director of Soccer Operations for the Thunder.
UW-Green Bay finished with an overall record of 9-10-0 last season in the Division I Horizon League. First-Team All-League forward Joshua Okoampa scored ten goals and tallied 22 total points last season, and will likely be the focal point of the Phoenix's offense again in 2006.
The Thunder will play a second exhibition game against Latino Select on Friday, August 25 at Northfield High School at 7 p.m. Latino Select is an All-Star team comprised of the best players from leagues in Northfield, Farmington and Faribault.
Tickets to all exhibition games are $10 with no V.I.P. or Field sections. Thunder regular season tickets are not valid for exhibition games.
