Bats Sputter In Black Bears Loss

Bellingham: July 8, 2012: Unable to convert scoring opportunities, the Cowlitz Black Bears fell 5-0 to the Bellingham Bells Sunday night to fall to 12-16 in league play on the season.

After a slow start, the Black Bears got five hits in the last three innings, including four base hits to lead off innings six through nine. However, the team hit into three double plays on the evening.

Brian Frattali (Portland) and Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia) combined for four of the team's hits and each reached base three times. Frattali had two singles and a walk and Salberg reached on a single, double, and walk.

Felipe Perez (UCLA) had a very good start on the mound, going six innings and allowing two runs. Perez struck out seven and allowed only three hits. Koby Gauna (Cal State Fullerton) pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Black Bears next home game is Tuesday, July 10 against the Walla Walla Sweets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday, featuring $2 GA tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 beer.
