Kelowna Falcons Complete Sweep

July 8, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Falcons completed their first sweep of the Corvallis Knights in history with a pair of wins during a doubleheader on Saturday night.

In game one the Falcons would beat the Knights 7-3 after a four run fifth inning.

After the home side jumped out to 1-0 lead in the fourth, thanks to a RBI hit by Kyle Moses, the Falcons would explode four runs in the fifth. The inning was highlighted by a two run single by Andrew Firth and two run double by Moses.

The Knights would creep close with three runs in the top of the sixth off starter Brandon Marris.

That's as close as they would come as Greg Friesen iced the game with a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth. The homer was Friesen's fourth of the year, and the team's league leading 16th.

Marris records his fifth win of the year as he climbs to 5-0.

In the second game both teams received a great outing from their starters as hit were few and far between.

The Falcons would compile just three hits, non-bigger than an RBI double from Moses. The Tracy California native hit a 2-2 pitch into the left field corner to score Patrick Johnson from first base. Moses would then score on an RBI sac fly from Cameron Alvarado.

The Falcons would complete the sweep with a 2-0 win. The club is an impressive 13-2 at home.

Falcons' starter Cale Coshow threw 4.1 solid innings of shut-out baseball, but left with a no-decision. Rob Dittrick of the Knights would throw a complete game, but suffered a loss. Curtis Sawchuk picked up the win, his second of the year.

Moses would finish the doubleheader with four RBIs and two doubles.

The Falcons (17-10) will have their final day off in two weeks on Sunday, before they welcome in the Klamath Falls Gems (8-18) for a three game series on Monday night.
