Bats silent in Broncos loss

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos tried a late comeback, but fell against the Edinburg Coyotes at Edinburg Baseball Stadium by the score of 12-8 on Monday. The Broncos continue on their 6 game trip with the middle game of a 3 game series against the Coyotes. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning. With one out Anthony Bennett was hit by a pitch. Then with 2 outs, Luany Sanchez hit a single which advanced Bennett to 3rd. With the newly signed Mark Perez batting, a wild pitch was thrown by Coyotes starter John Maschino which would move Sanchez to 2nd. Perez then hit a single into centerfield scoring both Bennett and Sanchez. That would give the Broncos an early 2-0 lead.

The Coyotes would also score in their half of the 1st inning. Eric Gonzalez led off the inning with a single. He was still on 1st with 2 outs, when Daryl Jones singled moving Gonzalez to 2nd. Then Mayobanex Santana hit a shallow fly ball into right field. Matt Lawman went out for it, but had the ball glance off his glove. Santana ended up with a double and Gonzalez and Jones scored on the play. That would tie the game at 2.

Edinburg would then take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With one out, Eddie Wilson walked. He would then steal 2nd and advance to 3rd on a throwing error by Luany Sanchez. Then with 2 outs, Eric Gonzalez walked putting runners on the corners. Then, Gonzalez attempted to steal 2nd, but Luany Sanchez threw the ball away again allowing Wilson to score. That gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead.

The Broncos would get back on the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd inning. Leading off the inning, Anthony Bennett was hit by a pitch for the 2nd time. Then Dwayne White would single advancing Bennett to 3rd base. With Luany Sanchez up, White would steal 2nd base. Sanchez would then ground out, but scoring on the play was Bennett, as Laredo tied the game up at 3.

The Coyotes would regain the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Robert Matlock led off the inning with a single. Then Daryl Jones and Mayobanex Santana were walked to load the bases. Amado German would bring in a run on a fielder's choice, which saw Matlock score, Jones advance to 3rd, and Santana forced out at 2nd. The very next batter, Logan Wood also hit into a fielder's choice. Scoring on the play was Jones, which gave Edinburg the 5-3 lead.

Edinburg would tack on another run in the bottom of the 4th inning. With Eric Gonzalez on 2nd base and 2 outs, Robert Matlock tripled scoring Gonzalez and extending the lead to 6-3.

The Coyotes would add on another run in the bottom of the 5th. With one out Amado German walked. Then with 2 away, Eddie Wilson singled, advancing German to 2nd. Angelo Fermin would then step in and single scoring German on the play. That would make the score 7-3 Coyotes after 5 innings.

Santo Hernandez, the starter for the Broncos would be done after 5 innings of work. He gave up 7 runs, 6 of which were earned, on 8 hits. He ended up walking 5 battersand striking out 5. John Smith would come into the game as the new reliever.

Smith would also get hit around in the bottom of the 6th. Gary Roche led off the inning reaching base on an error by Santiago Guerrero. Then, Robert Matlock and Daryl Jones walked to load the bases. Mayobanex Santana would follow with a sacrifice fly, scoring Roche, and advancing Matlock to 3rd and Jones to 2nd. Amado German would then single in Matlock and move Jones to 3rd. Patrick Gaylord would then come in and run for German. Logan Wood would then single, scoring Jones and advancing Gaylord to 2nd. After a strikeout, Angelo Fermin would triple, scoring both Garylord and Wood. Extending the to 12-3.

The Broncos would finally get a run in the top of the 7th against reliever Bryan Heaston. With one out Eric Padilla singled and advanced to 3rd base when the ball got by right fielder Eric Gonzalez for an error. Then with 2 outs, Anthony Bennett singled knocking in Padilla and making the score 12-4.

Nathan Crawford would then come into the game in the bottom of the 7th inning and pitch a scoreless 7th and 8th for the Broncos, keeping them down by 8 runs going to the top of the 9th.

Laredo would get the first two men on in the top of the 9th inning. Santiago Guerrero and Eric Padilla hit back to back singles, putting them on 1st and 2nd. With one out and Anthony Bennett up, a wild pitch was thrown by the Coyotes reliever James Mondesir moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Bennett would follow with a walk to load the bases. Dwayne White would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Guerrero. The next batter Josh Morrison would crank a 3 run home run his 2nd of the season. Mark Perez would then follow with a walk. But, Matt Lawman would strike out to end the game as the Broncos lost by a score of 12-8.

The Broncos scored 8 runs on 8 hits and committed 3 errors, while the Coyotes scored 12 runs on 11 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to .500 on the season with a 20-20 record. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday night when they play game 2 of a 3 game set against the Coyotes at 7:05.
