Frederick Keys News Release
For a second straight game the Keys first inning score would be it only one, as a trio of Wilmington pitchers held a struggling Keys offense down as Frederick dropped the series opener 3-1. The Keys have scored just five runs in its last four games and have seen its lead in the North shrink to five games.
Injuries have befell Frederick as LJ Hoes, Greg Miclat (both on the DL) and Billy Rowell were not in the lineup tonight. After grabbing a 1-0 lead, Frederick 1B Joe Mahoney had to leave the game in the fifth inning after Wilmington RF Jamar Walton lined a ball off of his hand in the fourth.
The Blue Rocks began that fourth inning as 1B Eric Hosmer's groundball up the middle was knocked down by a diving Bobby Stevens. Hosmer reached and then scored on a line drive home run from DH Jamie Romak. The home run was the fourth of the season for Romak. Next up was Walton who rifled the hot shot off of Mahoney. Walton later scored when C Salvadore Perez singled him home with two outs.
The Keys struggling offense could not counter. After registering three first inning hits including Mahoney's two-out RBI-single, Wilmington starter Alex Caldera set down 15 straight Keys. Frederick threatened in the seventh inning getting the first two runners on-base. The potential rally was foiled.
Frederick looks to even the series Tuesday, May 25th at 6:35 p.m. with Oliver Drake on the hill.
Myrtle Beach will come to town for a Memorial Day visit Monday, May 31st at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
