Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. -Papo Bolivar went 3 for 4 missing the cycle by just a triple to help Tennessee (34-27) beat Eastern Division rival Carolina (35-24) 7-2 Saturday night in a rain shortened game. Bolivar led the Smokies offense with a single, a double, and his second home run of the year in the 5th inning off of Carolina's Aaron Small (2-3). The game was called just one out into the 8th inning due to heavy rain and unplayable field conditions.
Tennessee starter Rhett Parrott (3-6) came into the game winless in his last four starts. Parrott scattered 7 hits over 7 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs to pick up the complete game win.
Joe Girardi made his second rehab appearance with the Smokies. Girardi finished with 1-for-4 and knocked in Skip Schumaker in the first inning on a groundout to short.
Josh Willingham continued his hot bat for the Mudcats with a home run off Parrott in the 2nd inning to cut their deficit to 3-1. The Mudcat's leading hitter Miguel Cabrera had two hits including a 6th inning solo home run off Parrott to boost his average to .371.
The Smokies and Mudcats finish their series at Smokies Park Sunday at 5:00. Jason Isringhausen is expected to make his second rehab start with the Smokies and will be followed by Jeremy Cummings (6-4) to face Carolina's Todd Moser (3-2). The Smokies will attempt to cut Carolina's Eastern division lead to one game with only nine games remaining in the first half.
