June 7, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
Huntsville, AL â The Stars are getting comfortable with comebacks. Huntsville (35-24) rallied from 4-1 down with a six-run fourth, then right-hander Matt Parker took over in an 8-4 win over the Lookouts (27-34). Saturday's victory at Joe Davis Stadium was the Stars' seventh in their last eight games. With Birmingham losing the first game of a doubleheader at West Tenn, Huntsville's magic number to clinch the Southern League West is six.
The Stars' spectacular fourth-inning rally began with the first seven batters reaching safely. Down 4-1, J.J. Hardy led off with a walk and Corey Hart singled, one of his three hits on the night. Brandon Gemoll doubled home a run, and Kade Johnson singled in another. Daryl Clark drew a walk to load the bases, then Chris Barnwell singled home Gemoll. With the bases still loaded, Ryan Gripp's pinch-single plated Johnson. Dave Krynzel's roller to first knocked in Clark, then Ryan Knox scored Barnwell with a sacrifice fly for a 7-4 Stars lead.
After Brian Admas tossed a scoreless fifth, Parker shut out Chattanooga over the final four frames, fanning four while allowing four hits and no walks. Parker notched his third save and continued a remarkable run. Over his last eight appearances dating back to May 3, Parker is 4-0 with two saves, permitting only two runs, one earned, over his last 27 2/3 innings.
Adams (1-1) picked up his first win, allowing one walk and striking out two in the fifth. Jeff Robinson made his Stars and Southern League debut, surrendering four runs on five hits, including Dernell Stenson's three-run homer and Stephen Smitherman's solo blast that came back-to-back in the third. Robinson retired seven of the first eight batters he faced before the Lookouts' third-inning rally. Bobby Basham (4-5) took the loss, giving up nine hits and seven runs, six earned, in three-plus innings.
Huntsville goes for a four-game sweep on Sunday at Joe Davis Stadium, with lefty Luis Martinez (5-3, 1.84) facing Chattanooga left-hander John Koronka (4-5, 3.80). Game time is 2:05 p.m.
