Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - The Hammerheads broke out of their offensive slump scoring six runs on 11 hits against St. Lucie but the effort was not enough as the Sharks lost to the Mets 10-6 on Sunday. The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to rain.

After going 39 innings without scoring a run the Hammerheads broke the drought in the second inning and from then on pounded 11 hits including home runs by Matt Juengel and Colin Moran.

Unfortunately the Sharks found themselves trailing for most of the game.

The Mets jumped on starter Jake Esch in the second scoring four times thanks to RBI doubles by Gilbert Gomez, Eudy Pina, Gavin Cecchini and a run scoring single by Maikis De La Cruz.

In second the Hammerheads would get on the board for the first time since Monday on of all things, a wild pitch. Juengel led off the inning with a bloop single to left before Moran hit a chopper that got under the glove of L.J. Mazzilli at second.

With runners on the corners an offering by St. Lucie starter Domingo Tapia got to the backstop allowing Juengel to score.

After Tapia walked Blake Barber and Sharif Othman bunted both runners into scoring position, Noah Perio grounded out to second to cut the deficit to a pair.

The Mets would find more success against Esch in the third when De La Cruz drove home another run with a single and in the fourth when Mazzilli pulled a RBI double to left and Jairo Perez hit a sac fly to center.

To Jupiter's credit the team kept chipping away from the five run deficit. In the fifth Noah Perio hit a triple to left-center and scored when Ryan Goetz reached on an infield single down the first base line.

In the sixth Juengel smashed a solo homer the left, his third of the year, to make it 7-4.

After St. Lucie scored three times in the eighth off of Brad Mincey, Jupiter struck back when Moran hit a two run shot to right.

Just as it seemed like the Hammerheads had gained some momentum for a late rally, the heavens opened up and it started pouring at Roger Dean Stadium. After a delay of 47 minutes the game was called and the Hammerheads had lost their ninth straight.

Jupiter and St. Lucie will continue the series on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

WP: Domingo Tapia (3-6)

LP: Jake Esch (3-4)
