LAKELAND -- Ryan Demmin and the Clearwater Threshers shut down the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium.

The Threshers were aided by a gem of a start from the southpaw Demmin, who earned the win. Demmin (2-1) threw eight scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out eight. The lefty had a perfect game going through 4.1 innings.

The only offense for either side came off the bat of Threshers' All-Star Art Charles in the top of the second inning. Charles muscled his fifth home run of the season to left-center field to put Clearwater (3-1) on top. Charles reached base in all three of his plate appearances, finishing 1-for-1 with a homer and two walks.

Edgar De La Rosa(4-5) was strong for Lakeland (1-3) but took the hard luck loss after tossing seven innings of two-hit baseball while striking out eight and walking one. The only blemish on De La Rosa's line was the Charles big fly.

Demmin took to the mound to start the bottom of the ninth inning, but the umpires halted play due to heavy rainfall. It ended up going down as a 50-minute delay, forcing the Threshers to turn to their closer Lee Ridenhour once the game resumed.

Ridenhour earned his sixth save of the season, but it didn't come easy. After inducing a pop-out off the bat of pinch-hitter Harold Castro to lead off the inning, Chad Wright and Curt Powell knocked back-to-back singles to put runners at first and second with only one out.

Jeff McVaney followed with a fly ball out to right, allowing the tying run to tag-up and move to third. After Ridenhour walked Lance Durham to load the bases, the Flying Tigers had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.

The Threshers' closer got ahead in the count 0-2 on Conner Harrell - who was already 1-for-3 in the game - and proceeded to get him to fly out to right field to end it. With the win, Clearwater has now come out on top in three games in a row for the first time in the 2014 season.

The Threshers will look to win their fourth consecutive game and sweep the series against Lakeland on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Coverage begins on threshersbaseball.com at 6:15 p.m. with Threshers Live the Pregame Show.
