Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla.- The Clearwater Threshers broke a shutout in the ninth inning on Wednesday, awakening late in a morning affair as the Threshers fell 5-1 to the Jupiter Hammerheads.

Nick Ferdinand came on for Angelo Mora as a defensive replacement in the second inning and picked up the Threshers' first hit in the fourth.

Jupiter opened up the scoring in the second inning after Austin Barnes led off with a single to center. Colin Moran followed with a double to left-centerfield to drive in Barnes from first.

After picking off Moran from second, Jon Prosinski (0-4) would settle down in the inning and retire the next two batters.

Prosinski had his best outing of the season, pitching a season-high 7.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out three.

Jupiter (18-21) would tack on four more runs in the eighth to break the game open.

Blake Barber led off the inning with a solo shot over the left-field wall to extend the Hammerheads lead to 2-0.

After getting Anthony Gomez to ground out, Prosinski would give up a single to Cameron Flynn, ending the day for the righty.

Dan Child came on in relief and allowed three runs to cross to put the Threshers into a 5-0 hole.

Ferdinand launched his second homerun of the season, a solo shot into the Frenchy's bleachers in left field to put the Threshers on the board in the bottom of the ninth. Ferdinand finished the game 3-for-3 with two singles to go along with the round-tripper.

KC Serna followed with a hard hit ball to left field that fell for a single. He would get as far as second base before Art Charles grounded out to second to end the game.

The Threshers (8-28) will look to avoid the sweep Thursday night when the two teams will meet for a 7 p.m. contest at Bright House Field. The game can be heard online starting at 6:45 p.m. with Threshers Live! the pregame show on threshersbaseball.com.
