Inland Empire 66ers News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - After struggling to swing the bats for most of August, the 66ers produced one of their best nights of the season at the plate in a 9-3 thrashing of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, ending a seven-game losing streak Monday night.

The 66ers set a season-high with nine extra-base hits among their 14, including three home runs.

Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, four consecutive 66ers produced extra-base hits: Justin Fuller doubled, Elian Herrera tripled, Scott Van Slyke doubled and Andres Perez hit a two-run homer off Quakes starter Jayson Miller to cap the four-run flourish.

Inland Empire wasn't finished the next inning as Alex Garabedian, Johan Garcia and Herrera each doubled in the span of four batters as the Sixers went ahead 6-3.

Alex Garabedian hit his first home run since June 1, a solo shot in the sixth of Rancho Cucamonga reliever Eddie McKiernan to pad the lead further.

Preston Mattingly also rediscovered his long ball stroke, smacking his first home run since June 25, a two-run shot in the seventh to break the game open.

Josh Wall (3-8) earned his first win since July 1, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks with 4 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Miller (5-9) surrendered 6 runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings for the loss.

The Quakes (56-71) took a first-inning lead on Matt Sweeney's solo homer in the first.

Johan Garcia went 3 for 4 with a double while Garabedian, Mattingly, Perez and Herrera had two hits apiece. Van Slyke drew three walks and reached base four times, scoring twice.

With the win, the 66ers (54-73) pull within two games of the Quakes for the final playoff spot.

The 66ers and Quakes resume hostilities at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. LHP Miguel Sanfler (2-8, 6.29) makes a spot start for Inland Empire while RHP Jeremy Thorne (4-7, 4.60) gets the nod for the Quakes. Radio coverage on KCAA 1050AM begins at 6:55 p.m. Inland Empire returns to Arrowhead Credit Union Park Thursday, August 27 to open up its final homestand of the season with the Mavericks and San Jose Giants. Tickets are available at www.66ers.com or the 66ers box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino. For more information, call 909-888-9922.
