Baton Rouge replaces Oklahoma City in ABA schedule

December 2, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA co-Founder, today announced that the Louisiana Hurricanes would play the Oklahoma City schedule starting December 10th. According to Newman, "As hard as OKC tried, they were unable to put things together there. We had a terrific group ready and eager to play and decided to make the move."

Team owner, Sheldon Jones, added, "Even if you had a crystal ball, you would not have seen that professional basketball would cross the line of demarcation -- when it embraces an ABA team blowing through the sugar cane fields in the guise of the Louisiana Hurricanes."

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Jones, known to his friends and associates as "Smooth," has traveled the globe and is now headed for his home with his Hurricanes. Jones holds a degree from SUNO (Southern University at New Orleans). He has been an assistant coach at Western Nebraska, Porterville College (CA), Utah Valley State and Nichols State. He wil have former players of local area universities as part of the team now and in the future.

"We have our work cut out for us. Fortunately, my team has been practicing, anticipating the possibility, for over a month and we are ready to go on the road for a couple of weeks - and then come back home and show the people of Baton Rouge what we can do."
