Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians will bring back the popular Baseball in Education program for the 2009 season courtesy of Aquafina and IUPUI. Students will have the opportunity to apply their classroom studies to a baseball setting during three 11 a.m. weekday games (April 15, May 7 & 19).
The Indians have developed a curriculum based on Indiana's Academic Standards. The curriculum, which includes activities that can be done before, during and after the game, is appropriate for students in kindergarten through eighth grade and high school students in sports marketing classes.
The purpose of these days is to show students that baseball can be educational and learning can be fun by applying America's favorite pastime to subjects like English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The Indians will add to the learning experience by having educational trivia for students between innings during each of the games.
The Indians offer all school groups (adults and students) special discounts on tickets for the BIE games. Lawn and reserved seat tickets are only $4.50 each, while box seat tickets are only $6.50 each. The Indians will offer convenient and affordable kids meals on these dates, but the food and drinks must be ordered in advance.
Over 150,000 have attended BIE days at Victory Field since the program began in 2003, including an average of 9,328 Indians fans per game last season. This year on Wednesday, April 15 the program will kick-off as the Tribe hosts the Columbus Clippers. The program continues Thursday, May 7 versus the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and Tuesday, May 19 against the Syracuse Chiefs.
