Basabe's Clutch Hit Seals Win
August 2, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
A crucial hit in the bottom of the eighth inning led the Tri-City Dust Devils (5-4, 23-24) to the 3-2 win over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (4-5, 24-23) on Wednesday at Gesa Stadium. Olivier Basabe hit a double in the eighth that drove in the game's winning run.
The pitching staff delivered another strong performance for the Dust Devils. Omar Cruz tossed four scoreless innings to begin the game. The 19-year-old southpaw has now allowed only one run in 13.2 innings of work this season. Tri-City turned to Jordan Guerrero in the top of the ninth inning after Basabe's double gave the team the one-run edge. Guerrero retired the side in order, picking up his team-high sixth save of the season. The Dust Devils have now won five of their last six games.
Right-hander Angel Acevedo will start the second game of the five-game series on Thursday night. Salem-Keizer will counter with right-hander Sean Hjelle. It will be Hat Giveaway Night presented by Community Real Estate Group. Arrive to the ballpark early and be one of the first 500 fans to receive a hat courtesy of Community Real Estate Group. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
