Barrage Bounce Back From Two-Game Losing Streak With 17-7 Victory

West Windsor, NJ - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, defeated the New Jersey Pride for the second time this season by a score of 17-7 in front of a record crowd of 6,103 fans at Mercer County Park. Philadelphia's Roy Colsey was named Bud Light MVP of the game for his performance. Colsey scored two two-point goals and had three assists in the win. The game started off with the appearance of Paul Cantabene at the face off X for the Barrage. A minute into the game, midfielder Matt Striebel scored the first goal of the game, giving Philadelphia an early lead. New Jersey's Jesse Hubbard and Scott Urick scored for the Pride, giving them the lead by one goal. Michael Springer scored, off an assist from Colsey six minutes in to tie the game for the Barrage at two. Dan Chemotti put the pride ahead by one but Colsey answered back with a two-point goal to put the Barrage ahead and the end of the first. Liam Banks scored early on in the second to tie the game for the Pride, but Philadelphia went on a four-goal run with two goals by Springer and two by B.J. Prager. Barrage goaltender Brian Dougherty and the Barrage defense did not let New Jersey score another goal in the second quarter. The score at the end of the first half was Philadelphia 8, New Jersey 4. Each team had great goaltending to start the third quarter with Urick finally breaking through the barrier for New Jersey, putting another goal on the scoreboard. Kevin Boland scored another one for the Pride cutting the deficit in half. Ryan Boyle scored his first goal back from a shoulder injury at 10:58, moving the score at nine for Philadelphia. Boland scored the last goal of the game for New Jersey with 3:54 left in the third. Philadelphia scored the next seven goals, two to end the third quarter by rookie Greg Peyser and another two-point goal by Colsey. Boyle and Prager both scored two more goals during the seven-goal run in the fourth quarter by the Barrage, along with a goal by Justin Smith. The final score of the game was Philadelphia 17, New Jersey 7. Dougherty recorded 23 saves on 30 shots before being taken out and replaced by Kevin Keenan late in the fourth quarter. Keenan recorded one save on one shot. New Jersey goalie Rob Scherr was awarded the loss with only 10 saves on 25 shots. Cantabene, coming off a long break from playing in the MLL, won only eight face offs out of 26 attempts. Andy Corno won 18 face offs out of 26 attempts for New Jersey. Philadelphia looks to continue a winning streak with the return home to Villanova Stadium on July 20 to battle the Long Island Lizards for a rematch game.
