San Francisco Dragons News Release

San Francisco, CA -Coming off their first ever home victory last weekend, the San Francisco Dragons (5-2) started their first home winning streak, downing the winless Chicago Machine (0-8), 22-10, on a sunny day at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco in front of a crowd of 2,587. With the win, the Dragons improve their home record to 2-1 and overall record to 5-2.

The Dragons, who have won four out of their last five games, dominated the second half, outscoring the Machine, 11-3.

Ryan Powell led the Dragons in scoring with five goals and five assists. For his effort, Powell was awarded the Player of the Game. Powell has two other Player of the Game awards to his credit this season.

"Do we really need to say anything more about how good Ryan is?" wondered Head Coach Brian Silcott. Regardless of what the answer to that question is, Silcott gave credit to the Dragons team as a whole, "Everybody did their job on offense, everybody was moving the ball well, it was a whole team effort...the reality of our team is that when Ryan is in the spots where everybody plays well, Ryan is going to get even more points."

Coming into the game, Powell, a Team USA member, led the league in scoring with 39 points on 25 goals and 14 assists and was averaging 7.8 points per game.

After being down 1-3 at one point in the first quarter, Matt Alrich gave the Dragons the lead, 4-3, on a close range shot with just 33 seconds left in the first.

A Chicago two-point goal and a man-up goal gave the Machine a 5-6 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Dragons were able to recover, scoring four goals in the last six minutes of the second quarter to take a 10-7 lead at the half.

The Dragons second half scoring streak was highlighted by a two- pointer from Tom Zummo with 1:32 left to play. In total Zummo had four goals and 1 assist for the game.

Rookie attacker Joe Yevoli and midfielder Matt Alrich each had three goals for the Dragons.

A 17-7 win by Dragon rivals, the Denver Outlaws (6-2), against the Los Angeles Riptide (2-5) on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, kept the Dragons in second place, two points behind Denver in the MLL's Western Conference. The Dragons remain the only team in the league to have beaten Denver, a feat they have accomplished twice.

The Dragons have a bye week next weekend, but return to action the following weekend with back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Riptide on Saturday, July 22nd, at Los Angeles and Sunday, July 23rd, at home in Kezar Stadium.
