Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH - Tomas Mojzis scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as Manitoba swept the weekend two-game series at Cleveland with a 3-1 win Sunday evening. Wade Flaherty totaled 24-saves for the Moose win improving to 8-5-2 on the year.

The Barons produced several quality scoring changes in the opening period, but could not solve the goaltending of Manitoba?s Flaherty. As a result the Barons skated through the opening period trailing 1-0 to the Moose. Jesse Schultz scored the period?s only goal on a breakaway at the 14:36 mark. Kevin Bieksa and Josh Green assisted on the score as the Moose were seeking their third consecutive win.

The Barons received more than eight minutes of power play time in the second period but could not take advantage. After forty minutes the Barons still trailed by one-goal at a score of 2-1. Mojzis scored a goal on Manitoba?s only power play chance of the period giving the Moose a 2-0 lead at the 16:16 mark of the middle period. The Barons answered only 32-seconds later as Shane Joseph converted his fifth goal of the season with a rebound strike behind Flaherty. Josh Gorges and Craig Valette assisted on Joseph?s goal trimming the Moose lead to 2-1. The Barons out-shot Manitoba 10-4 in the third period and were leading in shots-on-net 19-12 after forty minutes of action.

Cleveland began the third period with a power play, but it was Manitoba who took advantage with the period?s only goal coming short-handed. Mike Brown?s slap shot from just outside the Barons blue line alluded Dimitri Patzold extending the Moose lead to 3-1 just 53-seconds into the final frame. The Moose?s fourth ranked defense took over down the stretch shutting down Cleveland?s scoring chances and skating away with their third consecutive win, all coming on the road.

The Barons set sail for a four-game road stretch with Wednesday night?s game at Houston. All four games will take place in Texas and each will be broadcast live via the B2 Networks.
