Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Fans witnessed a thrilling, 11-inning affair between the Lookouts and Barons on the Lookouts' home opener at AT&T Field on Tuesday night. The see-saw battle, however, ended with a Ricardo Nanita solo shot to begin the eleventh inning, putting Birmingham on top, 6-5.
The Lookouts wasted little time in getting on the board. Luis Bolivar, who slammed six hits against Montgomery yesterday, continued his hot streak with a leadoff double. A Craig Tatum single would bring home Bolivar to give the Lookouts an early 1-0 lead.
Drew Anderson kept the Lookouts' offense going by slamming a solo shot in the third frame.
Meanwhile, Lookouts starting pitcher Daryl Thompson built upon his impressive first start by throwing six shutout innings, while striking out eight batters and yielding just two hits and one walk in the outing.
Birmingham, however, would capitalize on Thompson's exit and score three runs in the seventh frame. Doubles by Thomas Callaro and Javier Castillo capped the go-ahead inning.
The Lookouts would counter in the eighth by tying the score on a Craig Tatum RBI single, which brought home the speedy Drew Anderson.
The battle would continue into the ninth, when both teams matched each other with two runs. Birmingham successfully implemented a small-ball attack as their method of scoring, while the Lookouts relied upon a two-RBI double by Michael Griffin.
With the game going into extra-innings, Ricardo Nanita began the eleventh inning with a line drive homer over the right field wall to give the Barons a 6-5 edge.
Derek Rodriguez would prevent the Lookouts from scoring in the bottom portion of the inning, earning his first save of the season in the process.
Carlos Torres (1-0) was credited with the win for the Barons on the night. He pitched two innings, yielding two runs on three hits.
Pedro Viola (0-1) took the loss for the Lookouts after collecting two outs and yielding the Nanita game-winning homer.
The Lookouts will continue their five-game homestand against the Barons, tomorrow at 12:15. Tickets can be purchased at the Lookouts' box office, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling the ticket office at (423) 267-4849.
