Barons Take Second Straight over Trash Pandas 3-2
June 24, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Barons picked up their second consecutive win over the first half champion Trash Pandas 3-2 on Thursday night.
Rocket City scored the first two runs of the game. In the first inning, Mobile, AL native Jeremiah Jackson doubled off the left field wall to bring in Orlando Martinez. It was the 10th double of the season for Jackson. Martinez notched an RBI of his own with a single in the third.
But those runs were the only two scrapes on the best start of the season for Emilio Vargas. The 26th rated prospect in the White Sox pipeline finished with four strikeouts, allowing four hits and the two runs in seven innings. The seven innings for Vargas tied his longest start since 2018 when he pitched eight innings for the Jackson Generals against the Barons.
Vargas was the pitcher of record thanks to Birmingham's late offensive surge with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Luis Curbelo walked with the bases loaded for his 10th RBI of the year. After that, D.J. Burt hit a bloop single to bring in two runs. Ian Dawkins and JJ Muno crossed the plate to give the Barons a 3-2 lead.
Tomorrow's first pitch is set for 7:05 CT. Jason Bilous (3-5, 5.59) will start for the Barons. The Trash Pandas will go with Ky Bush (5-1, 2.47).
