Barons Outlast Biscuits After Lengthy Delay

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 4-2 on a soggy Wednesday night in front of 4,711 fans at Regions Field.

After an hour delay, the Barons and Biscuits finally got underway at 8:05 PM. Biscuits second baseman Ryan Brett led off the game with a double against starter Nick McCully (3-5, 5.37) and scored on a sacrifice fly Cameron Seitzer, giving the Biscuits a 1-0 lead.

The Barons took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, getting a leadoff double by Rangel Ravelo who scored on a base hit by Josh Richmond, tying the game at 1-1. After loading the bases with no out, Jeremy Farrell grounded into a double play scoring Kevan Smith from third base.

Chris Curley extended his hitting streak to a Southern League-best 14 games with a 3rd inning double and scored on a base hit by Michael Earley. Rangel Ravelo followed with an RBI double, scoring Earley and giving the Barons a 4-1 lead.

McCully allowed two runs on seven hits over 6.1 IP while picking up his first win since April 13th. Relievers Jarrett Casey and Brandon Hardin (S, 2) combined to hold the Biscuits scoreless over the final 2.2 innings of the game as the Barons improved to 29-37 while the Biscuits fell to 31-35.

Rangel Ravelo, Joe De Pinto and Kevan Smith each finished with two hits apiece for the Barons who finished with 11 hits in the game.

The Barons will look to win their third in a row overall Thursday night when they send RHP Chris Beck (3-6, 3.50) to the hill against RHP Victor Mateo (7-4, 3.84). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
