Birmingham Barons News Release

On a chilly opening night at Regions Field, the Barons opened their 2022 season with an 8-2 loss to North Division rival Rocket City Trash Pandas.

Davis Martin got the nod for the Barons and worked in and out of trouble early. With a final stat line of five innings, four hits, and two runs, three of the first four leadoff batters he faced recorded hits. The double by Braxton Martinez to open the fourth inning led to Trey Cabbage's two-run homer.

Cabbage erupted with five RBI. The other three came on a ninth inning bases clearing double to break open the game at its final score.

Brett Kerry's first six outs came via strikeout. The Rocket City starter threw five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts on the night. The only pitching blemish was against Craig Dedelow. The incumbent Baron ripped a two-run home run in the sixth inning off of Christopher Molina.

The Barons host the Trash Pandas in the second of a three game set tomorrow at 6:30 CT.
