BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns topped the Barons 4-0 Sunday afternoon despite a strong pitching performance from Birmingham starter Mark Blackmar at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Suns capitalized on just five hits to hand the Barons their second loss in as many games.

Blackmar tossed his best outing of the season Sunday, going seven innings and allowing just two hits to Suns batters. The right-hander's only earned run came on a solo home run to left fielder Matt Juengel in his final inning of work. With the loss, Blackmar drops to 0-2 on the year and the Barons fell to 7-9.

Jacksonville improved to 8-8 with the win. Carrying a 1-0 lead into the eighth, the Suns roughed up reliever Onelki Garcia for three runs - two earned - on three hits in the eighth, to push the lead to 4-0.

Birmingham batters managed seven hits off starting pitcher Jake Esch and reliever Lay Bautista through nine innings. While the Barons were held to no extra bases, six of the nine batters reached on hits. Tim Anderson recorded his eighth multi-hit game with two singles and stole his league-leading 11th base.

The two teams are back in action Monday night beginning at 6:05 p.m. in Jacksonville. Right-hander Myles Jaye is set to start for the Barons, searching for his second win of the year. Jaye is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA and will take on Suns right-hander Trevor Williams, who is 0-1 with a 3.31 ERA this season. The game can be heard live on WERC 105.5 FM or at WERCFM.com.

The team returns to Birmingham April 30 to host the Tennessee Smokies for a five-game series.
