Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (74-43) mustered just four hits and lost game two of their five-game series to the Birmingham Barons (51-62), 5-1, on Thursday night at Regions Field.
Ryan Thompson (1-1), who was activated from the injured list prior to the game, opened for the second time this season and was on the mound for the first time since fracturing a toe in a game at Tennessee on June 21. Thompson allowed three hits, including a two-run single to Damek Tomscha that put the Barons ahead early, 2-0.
Josh Fleming came on for Thompson and stopped the bleeding in the first, but served up a solo home run to Zach Remillard in the second, which increased the Barons' lead to 3-0. Brett Sullivan recorded the Biscuits first hit and only run of the night off Barons starter Bernardo Flores (3-5), hammering his ninth home run of the season 424 feet to right to get the Biscuits on the board at 3-1.
The Biscuits didn't have another answer for Flores who tossed five innings of one-run ball. The Barons then added to their lead with a Joel Booker two-run homer off Fleming in the sixth to make t a 5-1 game.
Tempers flared in the eighth when Barons reliever Mauricio Cabrera drilled Lucius Fox in the back which led to a near benches-clearing brawl. No punches were thrown, but Barons reliever Luis Martinez was ejected from the game.
The Biscuits will try to get back on track on Friday when Shane McClanahan makes his Double-A debut against John Parke (3-2) at 7:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a five-game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers beginning on Sunday, August 18 for Big Mo's Sweet 16 Mascot Mania. The rest of the home stand will include a Military Card Set Giveaway presented by Golden Corral on Wednesday, August 21 and Wrestling Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, August 22.
