Knoxville Smokies News Release
KODAK, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Smokies (51-44, 14-12) lost to the Birmingham Barons (43-50, 13-12) 11-6 for the third time this series Saturday night at Smokies Stadium. With the win, the Barons moved back into a tie with the Smokies for first place in the Southern League North in the second half.
Birmingham wasted no time taking an early lead Saturday night. The Barons plated two runs in the first inning off Riley Thompson (L, 0-3) and never looked back. The Barons scored in five different innings and led by as many as six runs at twice in the game. RHP Sameul Reyes was the lone Smokies pitcher to put together a scoreless outing, as he struck out six batters over two shutout frames.
Jake Slaughter, Bryce Ball and Bradlee Beesley combined for nine of Tennessee's 12 hits, as they totaled three hits each in the loss. Beesley and Weber extended their hit streak to eight and seven games, respectively.
