
Barons' Bats Falter In Loss To Biscuits

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game one of their four-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits 6-2 Thursday night in front of 3,534 fans at Regions Park.
The Biscuits got on the board early with three runs in the first inning against Barons starter Matt Heidenreic (1-2, 5.89) on RBI singles by Ryan Garko and Greg Sexton and an RBI double by Michael Sheridan. The Barons avoided further damage in the inning when Kenny Williams Jr. cut down Sheridan at the plate o Sexton's single.
The Barons broke through in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jared Mitchell scoring Kenny Williams Jr. Mitchell finished the night 1-for-3 with his league-leading 12th triple of the season.
The Biscuits would put the contest away with two insurance runs in the eighth on a Greg Sexton RBI bunt single and a sacrifice fly by Brett Nommensen.
The win went to Biscuits starter Kyle Lobstein (5-5, 4.02) who allowed a run on four hits in 6.0 innings while striking out six. Kirby Yates recorded the final four outs of the game for his 10th save of the season.
The Barons went just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position on the night and stranded 11 base runners.
The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Andre Rienzo (3-1, 2.91) takes the hill against RHP Jacob Thompson (7-6, 4.67). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
