Barons Announce Front Office Promotions

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Barons announced today the promotion of Jock Callander to Community Relations Manager, Derek DeNero to Sales and Entertainment Manager, and Tom Holy to Public Relations Manager. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.

Callander, 44, was promoted to his current role of Community Relations Manager after serving as the Barons Youth Hockey and Fan Development Coordinator for over two seasons. As Community Relations Manager, he will continue to have a major hand in the promotion of the Barons youth hockey and fan development efforts in Northeast Ohio. Callander won a Stanley Cup in 1992 as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. A former Cleveland Lumberjack, Callander is the International Hockey LeagueÂ’s all-time leading scorer. On December 20 th, 2003, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Cleveland Hockey Legends Ring of Honor.

DeNero, 24, was escalated to Sales and Entertainment Manager. For nearly two seasons, he served as an Account Executive for the Barons. In his new role, DeNero will oversee certain aspects of the game day entertainment and operations and assist in the organizationÂ’s strategic marketing efforts. He will also maintain an active role in the teamÂ’s ticket sales efforts. DeNero graduated from Bluffton University in 2003 with a degree in Marketing and Management, where he was four-year member, and two-year starter, on the menÂ’s basketball team.

Holy, 24, was promoted to Public Relations Manager. He served as the Barons Public Relations Coordinator since July of 2002. With the promotion, he is responsible for maintaining the teamÂ’s website www.clevelandbarons.net, writing and editing several team publications, serving as the teamÂ’s liaison with the media, and actively generating new fans by building brand awareness. Holy earned a degree in Sport Management from Bowling Green State University in 2002. A graduate of Holy Name High School, he previously served as an intern with FSN-Ohio and the Cleveland Indians.

“Getting a chance to recognize the hard work of our employees with a promotion is very satisfying,” stated Michael T. Lehr. “These three individuals have grown with this organization and it was time to reward them with more responsibility for the coming season.”
