Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
Baron Robison, perhaps best known locally as the KickinCancer guy, has joined the full-time staff at Volcanoes Stadium to lead the marketing and promotions efforts. Robison originally moved to the Keizer/Salem area in 1996 to take co-ownership of Arby's on River Road. Almost immediately success followed with growth in sales and profits each year 1997-2000. Baron was named Manager of the Year for the Seattle/Portland region 1997-98 along with Local Store Marketing Manager of the Year 1999-20.
Following a move with his family to Newport, Oregon (2001-2012), Robison returned to the Willamette Valley and worked at Arby's on Lancaster before being hired by Costco in 2014. In 2018, in an effort to support his sister's battle with breast cancer, he rallied over 40 co-workers to compete in the Warrior Dash and eventually led Baron to become the co-founder of KickinCancer, a non-profit whose mission is to "EMPOWER individuals to thrive through the cancer journey with support and education". The non-profit has grown significantly over the years and created a weekly radio show called "KickinCancer Cares" with listeners in over 30 countries and has a retail store, in Keizer, with a full apparel line of shirts, hats, and more in collaboration with Kuhl Disc.
Baron Robison, grew up in Hermiston, Oregon and graduated as Salutatorian and President of the Class of 1982 at Hermiston High School. Baron went on to graduate from the Northwest Business College in Portland in 1986. Robison was recognized nationally as Scoutmaster of the Year with Boy Scouts of America for this area. Additionally, Baron achieved the highest level of education achievement with Toastmaster's International earning the Distinguished Toastmaster Award. In 2019, Baron completed the Spartan Trifecta Races.
"I am very grateful to the Walker family for giving me this extraordinary opportunity," said Robison. "Especially thankful that they have always supported my non-profit work with KickinCancer and are fully supportive of keeping that initiative growing while working at the Stadium on a daily basis. I was here when the Stadium was built over 25 years ago and am excited to help maximize the Stadium's future especially with all the recent investment and improvements the Stadium has seen - truly becoming a multi-use venue with its new artificial turf and LED field lighting," concluded Robison.
"Baron is like a community icon," said Mickey Walker CEO of the Mavericks League at Volcanoes Stadium. "We are delighted to add him as an important member of our staff. Baron is a visionary, a multi-tasker, and a doer, said Walker - that combination is hard to find. He is well liked and is a 'people person' and will be a great fit for our organization.
