Lancaster Stormers News Release
Lancaster struck for runs in seven straight innings on Monday evening to defeat the Long Island Ducks, 8-1, at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip.
With the victory, the Barnstormers stretched their first place margin over the Somerset Patriots to 1 1/2 games.
Adam Godwin led the charge with four of the Barnstormers' 15 hits while Fehlandt Lentini and Tommy Everidge added three apiece. Blake Gailen contributed a pair of RBI.
It was Everidge who started the drumbeat against Bob Zimmermann (0-1) with a double into the left field corner to lead off the second inning. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jesus Merchan and scored on Gailen's sacrifice fly to left center.
Lentini extended his hitting streak to 13 with an RBI single up the middle in the third and kept stretching the lead with a homer to left center that opened the fifth and another RBI single to center in the sixth.
Lancaster finally scored two in the same inning in the eighth when Godwin doubled to start the frame, and Lentini was hit by a pitch. Both runners worked their way around to the plate on a pair of ground balls and a wild pitch.
Mark Brackman (1-1) tossed his first quality start in the Atlantic League. The right-hander scattered six singles over the first six innings, yielding a two-out run in the sixth on the second of Ray Navarrete's three hits on the night.
Brackman was lifted after issuing a four-pitch walk to Shawn Williams to start the seventh. Beau Vaughan finished that inning. Dwayne Pollok and Mike Johnston also threw an inning each to finish off the night.
The Atlantic League's two division leaders will meet again on Tuesday evening. John Halama (3-1) will take the hill for Lancaster against lefty Randy Keisler (1-1). The game will be heard on WLAN, 1390-AM and 1390wlan.com, starting at 6:15.
