York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution endured a tough night offensively to open their seven-game homestand, losing 5-1 to the Sugar Land Skeeters at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday Night. The Revs will look to even things as the series continues on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
York started off early cashing in a run in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Nowak put Stephen Douglas into scoring position off a liner to left field for a single. Starting pitcher Derrick Gordon then threw a wild pitch to bring Douglas home giving York a 1-0 lead.
Sugar Land took control through the rest of the game scoring five unanswered runs, however. In the third inning, the Skeeters' Bubba Bell hit an RBI double off the left field wall to bring home teammate Drew Locke to draw the score even at 1-1. The scoring continued as Sugar Land put two more on the board in the fourth inning with a crucial throwing error to third base from catcher Salvador Paniagua and an RBI single to center field by Drew Locke.
In the sixth inning, the Revolution tried to answer back off another solid hit off the wall in left field for a double by Chris Nowak, advancing Michael Hernandez to third. But with two outs, reliever Sean Morgan retired Andres Perez on a pop to right field to end the inning stranding two in scoring position.
Sugar Land tacked on insurance runs on sacrifice flies by Josh Pressley and Bubba Bell in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
York reliever Omar Javier (0-3) threw 4.2 innings, including three scoreless innings from the fifth through the seventh, but suffered the loss. Gordon (1-1) of Sugar Land took the win as he threw 5.2 innings giving up four hits and one run.
York's Yunior Novoa (0-2) will face Sugar Land's Matt Wright (1-0) in Tuesday's game at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. It is a WellSpan Health Silver Sluggers Club Tuesday with Shurfine Baseball Bingo. It is also a Fill-Your-Tummy Tuesday in the Bud Light Picnic Pavilion, and it is Buck-A-Book ticket redemption night #1 presented by the York County Literacy Council. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
