IFL Quad City Steamwheelers

Barnstormers Head to Steamwheelers for Last Regular Season Matchup

July 15, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

As their quest for the postseason continues, the Quad City Steamwheelers (8-7) close out the regular season vs. their Eastern Division rivals, the Iowa Barnstormers (9-6) at home in the TaxSlayer Center.

The task is simple: Defeat the Barnstormers and earn a berth in the IFL 2022 postseason or lose and end the season wondering "what if?"

When the Wheelers are at their best, they've already proven time and time again that they can compete with any team in the league. Last week, on the road vs. the team with the best record in Indoor Football-the Wheelers took the Fighters all the way to OT2. The game ended with a 44-50 loss, but the Wheelers sent a message to the rest of the league: you do not want to face #sQUADCITY in the playoffs.

Quarterback E.J. Hilliard Jr. put up 5 total touchdowns vs. Frisco, 4 through the air and 1 on the ground. Wide Receiver Mike Carrigan scored 3 total touchdowns, 2 receiving and 1 rushing.

They prepare to face a Barnstormer team riding a 3-game winning streak: 49-30 win over the Bucks (6/25/22), 35-26 win over the Pirates (7/2/22) and a 61-48 win over the Sugar Skulls (7/9/22). Against the Sugar Skulls, Antonio Wimbush scored 7 rushing touchdowns. Being able to neutralize Wimbush and the dual-threat abilities of quarterback Darius-James Peterson will be no easy task.

What will happen when these two Eastern Conference rivals clash with postseason ramifications at stake? Tune in Friday July 15th at 7:05 PM CT to find out.
