Iowa Barnstormers News Release

The Iowa Barnstormers (6-4) defeated the Green Bay Blizzard (4-7) in Des Moines on Friday night, 34-24.

The Blizzard received the ball to start the game. They were able to get points on the board with a touchdown pass to WR Shaquan Curenton. The Barnstormers' offense took over looking to get in on the action, but settled for a Gabriel Rui field goal. Green Bay kicker Nick Jarworski made the score 10-3 at the end of the first quarter with a field goal of his own.

Darius-James Peterson, Iowa QB, started the second quarter with a long run to help set up first-and-goal. His team was able to capitalize with a touchdown from WR Dom McNeil. The Barnstormers continued their success on the defensive end, as DB Jordan Baldwin sacked Jack Sheehan and helped set up a missed Jarworski field goal. Green Bay refused to let up, though, and came up with an interception from LB James Brown. In a defensively-strong game, the Barnstormers stopped the Blizzard on fourth-and-one and took over, but a sack against Peterson gave the ball right back. Green Bay was able to score again with a touchdown pass to WR Steven Newbold, but Iowa WR Kezlow Smith tied the game at 17 with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Barnstormers received the ball to start the second half and took their first lead with a Rui field goal. The Barnstormers defense came up with back-to-back interceptions from Alvin Bailey and JR Stevens, but were unable to score on either possession.

Looking to regain their lead, the Blizzard reached the end zone, making the score 24-20. The Barnstormers quickly answered back with a touchdown pass to WR Antonio Wimbush. Iowa came up with a stop and took over with just 2 minutes left. Looking to close the game out, Wimbush reached the end zone and Iowa prevailed, 34-24.

With the win, the Barnstormers avenged their loss to the Blizzard last week, 30-27. Iowa was able to win the 2022 series 2-1.

The Barnstormers return to Wells Fargo Arena next Saturday to face the Sioux Falls Storm (4-5). It will be the fourth and final matchup between the teams this season.
