Barber Recalled to Bears

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that Greg Barber has been recalled by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Barber leaves the Quad Cities after recording 12 points (five goals and seven assists) in 11 games with the Mallards. Barber has the third best plus minus rating in the UHL (plus 12).

Last season, Barber finished second amongst ECHL rookies in scoring with 76 points (30 goals and 46 assists) in 71 games. Barber's 30 goals ranked second on the Gulls roster and helped lead the team to the best regular season record in the ECHL. He was held scoreless in two AHL appearances this season with the Bears.

The 6-foot, 192-pound winger attended the University of Denver before beginning his pro career in San Diego. Barber played 145 collegiate games with the Pioneers recording 92 points on 42 goals and 50 assists. Before beginning his college career, Barber was drafted in the 7th round (207th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins.

The Mallards return to action on Thursday at Fort Wayne. Game time is 6:30 p.m. as the teams meet for the first time this season. The Mallards return home on Saturday to host the Fort Wayne Komets. It's Kerry Toporowski Night as the Mallards retire the number of the beloved enforcer. Fans in attendance will receive a free Kerry Toporowski DVD courtesy of Hardee's. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
