November 23, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release


LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO .. The American Hockey League (AHL) looked to the United Hockey League (UHL) to inject new talent into their teams' rosters this week with Kalamazoo's left wing Ryan Barnes, Richmond's left wing David Hymovitz, and Rockford's defenseman Tim Wedderburn and goaltender Michel Robinson.

While Wedderburn retains his spot with the AHL Chicago Wolves, Hymovitz called up by the Binghamton Senators and Robinson by the Milwaukee Admirals, returned to their respective UHL teams to earn weekly honors as Sher-Wood Player (5g,3a,8pts) and Southern Sports Goaltender of the Week (2-0-0).

"Highlighted by their many accomplishments, we will continue to encourage, develop and support our players throughout their careers," stated Richard Brosal President/CEO.

While some got an early call-up from the AHL, the United Hockey League's Kansas City Outlaws have signed the NHL Vancouver Canucks' left wing Marc-Andre Roy. Although the Outlaws are not affiliated with Vancouver, the 21-year old hopes to grow and develop in the Outlaws system under the leadership of Coach Darryl Williams.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Adirondack Frostbite - (2-1-0) - Left wing rookie Ryan Bennett had a seven point week (2g,5a). On Saturday against Richmond, Bennett had five points which is tied for most by a player in a game this season..Adirondack has not lost in regulation when scoring the first goal in a game (7-0-2).Right wing Trevor Segstro, left wing Hugo Belanger and right wing Justin Kelly each had scoring streaks snapped this weekend. Segstro's and Belanger's ending at ten and Kelly's ending at nine.Adirondack's eight goals Saturday night was a game high by any team this season.

Danbury Trashers - (1-0-1) - The Trashers set a team record on Saturday as nine players each tallied one point in their 3-2 win over Adirondack. Not one player finished with a multi-point night.Danbury is currently second in the league in penalty killing (90.8%). However, they are best in the UHL in home penalty killing (97.6%).Bruce Richardson continues as the only Trasher to score a shootout goal, as he is a perfect 2-2 in shootout attempts this season.Goaltender Scott Stirling hasn't lost in regulation in his last four starts (3-0-1).

Elmira Jackals - (1-2-0) - Center Greg Koehler is leading the UHL in scoring with 32 points and league best 19 goals through 18 games.Netminder Greg Hewitt leads the UHL in wins (9), minutes (917), saves (492), and shootout wins (3).Defenseman Chris Shaw leads all rookies in the UHL in penalty minutes with 71. He is first among defensemen and third among rookies in major penalties.Captain Trevor Burgess missed two games this weekend but still leads the UHL in scoring among defensemen (2g,14a,16pts).

Flint Generals - (2-1-0) - Right wing Mike Kinnie recorded the team's first hat trick Friday night in a 7-2 victory over Port Huron.Right wing Rob Valicevic is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals and in the last five games has six goals, two assists, eight points, and a plus/minus of +6.Goaltender Dan McIntyre posted back-to-back victories last weekend stopping 38 of 40 shots. In the last five games, McIntyre has posted a record of 3-1-1 allowing only five goals.Seven goals scored in the victory over Port Huron was the highest goal production by the Generals this season.

Fort Wayne Komets - (2-0-0) - The Komets gained four points in the Western conference this weekend.Wednesday night the Komets handed the Muskegon Fury their first home regulation loss of the season (6-3). Six different players scored for the Komets including Jonathan Goodwin, Rob Guinn, Jason Kean, Chris Grenville, P.C. Druin and Tom Nelson. Goaltender Tyler Masters registered his second win of the season stopping 18 of 21 shots.Friday night the Komets outshot the Outlaws 41-18 and picked up goals by Dustin Virag, Colin Chaulk and two from Sean Venedam.

Kalamazoo Wings - (2-0-0) - Mark Reeds will coach his 600th career game on Friday, November 24th versus Fort Wayne.Daniel Carriere scored his 100th career point on Wednesday versus Port Huron, while Tyson Turgeon played in his 100th career game on Friday versus Missouri.Chad Alban is tied for second in the UHL with eight victories and is fourth in the league with a goals against average of 2.01.After Wednesday, the K-Wings will start one of their two season long six-game road swings.Kalamazoo has won three straight road games.

Kansas City Outlaws - (0-3-0) - Left wing Marc-Andre Roy from the NHL Vancouver Canucks was added to the Outlaws roster November 16th.Center Steve Yetman is second in rookie scorers and assists (5g,12a,17pts).Right wing Joe Seroski is eighth in points (19), second in goals (13).The Outlaws enter into the seventh week of the season 6-10-0 but remain undefeated in Kemper Arena (2-0-0).The Outlaws begin the week in a face-off against Rockford who they defeated 1-0 in a shootout earlier this season.

Missouri River Otters - (2-2-0) - Jason Tapp's consecutive shutout minutes streak came to an end Friday night at 208 minutes, 40 minutes shy of the UHL record set by Kevin St. Pierre in 2001. Tapp leads the league with five shutouts, three shy of the league record for one season...Forward Brad MacMillan scored his first professional goal Sunday against Motor City, and George Cantrall his first of the season on Saturday versus Port Huron...The River Otters are allowing the least shots per game in the league (24.19).Expected to return this upcoming weekend is all-star forward Charlie Blyth who scored 26 goals last season, including a team record four-goal performance against the Muskegon Fury.

Motor City Mechanics - (0-2-1) - The Motor City Mechanics stopped a five game pointless streak by earning a point in Quad City on Friday night.Left wing Jeff Goldie holds the highest number of goals scored for the Mechanics this season (7).In his first appearance with the Mechanics on Saturday night, goaltender Cory Campbell faced 42 shots and stopped 36 of them.Friday, November 26th fans will receive team photos and have an opportunity to meet the entire Mechanics crew on the concourse after the game.

Muskegon Fury - (1-3-0) - Rookie goaltender Clayton Pool is the only undefeated goalie in the UHL (4-0-0) with a goals against average of 1.61 and second best save percentage in the league (.932).Left wing Brant Blackned is three goals away from tying Andrew Luciuk for third place on the Fury's All-Time Goal Scoring list.When they score three or more goals, the Fury record stands at 9-1-1; when they score four or more, their record stands undefeated at 8-0-1.In Saturday night's 6-1 victory over Motor City, the Fury because the first team in UHL history to achieve 500 regular season victories.

Port Huron Beacons - (2-2-0) - Right wing Joey Sewell scored six points in his first two games since coming off the injured reserve and is tied with seven players for individual game highs in points (5).During the past two home games, Port Huron has averaged 5.5 goals per game - they were averaging 2.57 prior to this weekend.The Beacons enter into the seventh week of the season 4-12-1 with two home wins.

Quad City Mallards - (2-1-0) - Goaltender Jeff Reynaert recorded the Mallards first shutout of the season on Sunday versus Muskegon. Reynaert stopped 37 shots in the win and 55 of 56 over the weekend.On Sunday versus Muskegon, Quad City held the league's best power play scoreless on five attempts.Right wing Patrick Nadeau is tied with former Mallard Mark McFarlane for fourth on the team's All-Time Scoring list after he recorded an assist on Sunday (240pts).

Richmond RiverDogs - (1-1-0) - Center Mark Turner has had points in six straight games.The 'Dogs fired 32 shots Saturday after they had been held to under 30 shots in five straight games.Left wing David Hymovitz notched the 'Dogs second hat trick of the year in Saturday's game against Elmira.Richmond has scored power play goals in three straight games.The 'Dogs are 6-0-1 when scoring the first goal.

Rockford IceHogs - (2-0-0) - Defenseman Nathan Lutz is third among UHL defensemen in scoring and leads the circuit with six goals. In the last three games, Lutz has scored two goals, had 3 assists and 5 points with a plus/minus of +8.Every active skater on the IceHogs roster has a plus/minus of even or better.The IceHogs are 6-0-0 on Saturday's this season and are 6-0-0- on the second game of back-to-back games.Rockford is also 6-0-0 against the UHL's Central division teams this season.
