
Barber Lifts Wild Over Brown Bears

SOLDOTNA, Alaska - Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.)scored a pair of goals Friday to lead the Wenatchee Wild to a 3-1 victory overthe Kenai River Brown Bears at the Soldotna Sports Center in Soldotna, Alaska.
After a scoreless first period, Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) put theWild up 1-0 when he banged in a rebound 70 seconds into the second stanza. Max McHugh (Edgewood, Wash.) and Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas)assisted.
The Brown Bears tied up thecontest, 1-1, six and a half minutes later when Raymond Stenehjem blasted in aone-timer from the near point on a pass from Brett Lubanski. Chris Blessingalso assisted.
The Wild reclaimed the lead with7:48 remaining in the second period when Barber lit the lamp on a breakawayopportunity that was set up on a tremendous headman pass from defenseman Brendan Vetter (North Fond du Lac, Wis.)in his defensive zone. Chris Kerr (Penticton,British Columbia) picked up the second assist.
Barber gave the Wild a coveted2-goal lead near the middle of the third stanza when he scored on a backhanderfrom the far circle after he picked up his own rebound in the slot. Blake Saylor (Centennial, Colo.) andKerr assisted.
Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas), who made a pair of ridiculous stopsduring a 3-on-1 chance for the Brown Bears near the midpoint of the firstperiod, made 17 saves on 18 shots to improve his record to 16-5-3. AustinSeverson made 28 saves on 31 shots for Kenai River.
Neither team scored on the powerplay. Wenatchee went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage while Kenai River went0-for-5.
The 2-goal game was Barber'sfirst multi-point effort since he returned to the Wild late last month. He has scoredfour goals in five games during the Wild's road trip in Alaska. Kerr assistedon both of Barber's markers.
The Wild (25-15-5) will try tosweep the Brown Bears (23-19-2) on Saturday. Faceoff is set for 8:30 p.m.(PST). The game will be broadcast live on 560 AM KPQ, and all of the Wild'sgames can be viewed live online for a small fee at www.FASTHockey.com.
