Great Falls Voyagers News Release

OGDEN, Utah (July 15, 2015) - The Great Falls Voyagers got another strong start from Tanner Banks, and opened up their seven-game road trip with a 6-2 win over the Ogden Raptors Wednesday night at Lindquist Field.

Banks (3-0) followed up his first career quality start with another one on Wednesday, firing six innings of two-hit shutout ball for the Voyagers (14-9). The southpaw has now won back-to-back starts and three of his five on the season, after transitioning to the rotation from the bullpen with Low-A Kannapolis.

Neither team scored in the first three innings, but the Voyagers got Banks the lead in the fourth. Singles by Antonio Rodriguez and Johan Cruz got the ball rolling for Great Falls, before an error allowed Rodriguez to score the game's first run.

Casey Schroeder and Grant Massey then followed with consecutive run-scoring singles to push the margin to three, before a second error, this time by starter Dennis Santana (0-3), plated the fourth run of the frame.

The four runs were plenty for Banks, who cruised through the middle innings, retiring nine Raptors (13-14) in a row at one point, before he was relieved by Ryan Riga, who threw a pair of scoreless innings in relief.

Great Falls tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth frames. In the seventh, Jake Jarvis scored on a wild pitch after leading the inning off with a double, and in the eighth Frank Califano scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to make it 6-0.

For the second time this season, the Voyagers were within one out of recording their first shutout of the season. However, with two outs in the ninth, Scott De Jong doubled home a pair, giving the Raptors their only two runs of the night.

The Voyagers and Raptors continue their three-game set Thursday night at Lindquist Field. Right-hander Brannon Easterling (2-0, 2.63) will be on the mound for Great Falls, while Ogden will counter with southpaw Jairo Pacheco (1-2, 4.64). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
