Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Wednesday at Kindrick Legion Field, the Grand Junction Rockies started a pair of 18-year olds on the mound in their doubleheader against the Helena Brewers. Peter Lambert pitched well, but was on the wrong end of the Rockies 4-2 loss, while Javier Medina tossed three scoreless innings in a 6-3 win in game 2.

In three innings, Lambert, the Rockies second round pick from San Dimas, California allowed just one earned run with three strikeouts, but the Rockies were sloppy behind him, committing three errors in the game's first two innings.

He left trailing 3-0, but the Rockies got within a run late. Tyler Nevin doubled and scored in the fourth inning, and did the same in the sixth, but Helena added another unearned run in the seventh, and the Rockies went down in order their last time up.

Nevin finished game one with three hits in three at bats.

James McMahon followed Lambert with three scoreless innings, while Kelvin Franco surrendered one unearned run in the seventh.

In game two, Medina struck out five in his three innings, and the Rockies led 4-0 when the game was handed to the bullpen. Anthony Brito and Mylz Jones worked bases loaded walks in the second, while Chris Rabago started the third inning with a home run. In the fourth inning, Nevin stayed hot with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Helena got within a run when Steven Karkenny hit a 3-run homer off Alec Crawford in the fifth, but Lorenz Ozuna retired the side in order in the sixth, and after the Rockies scored a pair in the seventh, Sam Thoele kept Helena off the board in the seventh, locking down his third save.

The doubleheader split gets the Rockies record to 14-12 on the season. They'll play a second twinbill in Helena on Thursday.
