EASTERN LEAGUE ANNOUNCES BANK OF AMERICA WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS
PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending June 15th:
Akron Aeros third baseman Wes Hodges has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 15th. Hodges, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, had an excellent week for the Aeros, hitting .522 (12-for-23) with one double, one home run, nine runs scored, eight RBI, four walks and a .696 slugging percentage in six games. The 23-year old kicked off his week going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and one run scored while leading the Aeros to an 8-6 win over New Hampshire last Tuesday. He went on to collect at least one hit in each of the remaining five games he played in during the week and he currently has a 10-game hitting streak. The 6'2", 180 lb. slugger has driven in a league-high 53 runs this season and is also ranked among the league leaders in hits (78-tied 4th) and batting average (.322-10th). Wes, who was named a Carolina League All-Star last season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the second round of the 2006 draft out of Georgia Tech University.

Daniel Christensen, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 15th. The 24-year old made a pair of starts for the SeaWolves last week and had a record of 1-0 with 12 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings. Christensen made his first appearance of the week last Tuesday and struck out eight batters while giving up one run on three hits and two walks in eight innings of work in a 5-1, 10-inning loss against Portland at Jerry Uht Park. In his second start of the week the 6'1", 210 lb. hurler earned his fourth win of the season by giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters at home against New Hampshire on Sunday. Daniel, who leads the league in complete games (2) and is tied for the league lead in shutouts (1), was acquired by the Detroit Tigers as the player to be named in a trade with the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Roman Colon on November 13, 2007.
